Job Description

  • Position type: This position is contingent on funding approval and is intended to be a full-time, one-year contract with good possibility of extension
  • Location: This position is a combination of in-office work at all 3 CTC locations (Mississauga, Hamilton, and Toronto) and travelling across the GTHA to perform key functions. The successful candidate will also potentially perform some duties remotely from home on a hybrid-remote schedule, contingent on management approval.

Description: The Career Foundation’s Completing the Circle (CTC) program is a youth employment and skills development project funded by Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS). CTC fosters the development of and provides individualized support to youth with multiple barriers to employment.

The Outreach Worker will be an essential part of the team, taking a lead role in identifying and recruiting new youth participants for the CTC program, and creating and maintaining community partnerships for all CTC locations, in addition to other essential duties.  

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Community Outreach and Participant Recruitment:

  • Conducts community outreach to recruit new, eligible youth participants into the CTC program.
  • Presents program to community partners and potential participants, ensuring they understand the program objectives and the time requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains new relationships with community agencies to ensure effective partnerships and referrals.
  • Participates in community events, job fairs, and other activities to recruit new, eligible youth participants into the program.
  • Works in collaboration with The Career Foundation’s Communications team to develop marketing and social media campaigns to promote the CTC program to new potential participants and employers.
  • Conducts accurate assessments of participants based on program eligibility requirements and ensures all mandatory forms are completed.
  • Maintains detailed records of outreach initiatives performed on a regular basis.
  • Prepares weekly report on outreach activities for submission to management.
  • Other duties as required.

Facilitation and Job Coaching (As needed):

  • Fosters job search and employability skills with multi-barriered youth participants through one-on-one coaching.
  • Assists youth to develop transferrable workplace skills and life skills, including teamwork, responsibility, self-confidence, and self-reliance (in the areas of job search and job maintenance).
  • Professionally presents information to youth on topics including, effective job search strategies, accessing the hidden job market, cold-calling, job posting analyses, salary negotiations, health and safety, resume and cover letter writing, developing strong references, and successful interview
  • Researches, develops, and delivers effective job search strategies suitable for multi-barriered youth that can be delivered in-person or online.
  • Motivates youth participants through enthusiastic presentations and encourages participation in all topics covered.
  • Assists youth in the development of appropriate work habits, behaviours, and attitudes during their participation in the program and in the workplace.
  • Works one-on-one with barriered youth participants in developing skills related to creating effective self-marketing materials.
  • Maintains timely documentation of participant and employer activities and progress; enters reports (manual and electronic) into required online systems.
  • Provides youth with referral information for other services in the community when needed.
  • Communicates with the Program Coordinator regarding participant performance in relation to contract requirements and the needs of the program.
  • Accurately reports on participant case load and established action plans to ensure the success of participants during daily team meetings and weekly case conferences.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications / Skills Required:

  • University degree or college diploma in marketing, business, or community development, or equivalent practical work experience is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct service experience in community outreach, recruitment, and/or job development/coaching, with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding targets.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario G driver’s licence and have a reliable vehicle to perform key work functions that require travel across the GTHA and must also be equipped to work professionally from home with reliable internet connection to perform some remote job functions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage employers and youth.
  • Strong knowledge of job search techniques required to access the labour market.
  • Current knowledge of the labour market and connections to related networks, associations, employers, and/or professional groups within the local community, preferred.
  • Previous experience working with government-funded programs is an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as Zoom, and Outlook 365 applications, including Teams, SharePoint, Forms, and Bookings.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to uphold the organization’s service standards, policies, and core values.
  • A professional and courteous approach to client service with a high level of respect for the diversity of the people served.
  • Must be results-driven with exceptional organizational skills, time management, and ability to multi-task in order to meet deadlines and achieve program targets and objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to clearly communicate information verbally and in writing, when participating in meetings and writing reports.
  • Punctual, self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Willingness to step-in to assist team members as needed to help ensure program goals are met.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive information, exhibit tact, diplomacy and good judgment, with high standards of professionalism, ethics and confidentiality.
  • Able to work independently and build strong working team relationships.
  • Must be flexible to work outside of normal business hours when needed, including evenings and weekends, during peak periods.
