Program and Role Description:

The Manager, Talent and Engagement will be a key member of The Career Foundation’s Human Resources department, responsible for leading and executing initiatives across the full spectrum of talent management, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee engagement, learning and development, and retention strategies.

This role requires a dynamic and well-rounded HR professional to design, implement, and manage inclusive, data-informed HR initiatives that enhance the employee experience, optimize performance management practices, and foster a culture of belonging, growth, and continuous improvement aligned with organizational goals.

Position type:

Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Location and Requirements:

  • The designated base location for this opportunity is our Head Office in North York (Lawrence Ave. & Allen Rd.). The successful candidate will also be required to travel to our other locations, including Toronto, Etobicoke, York, Scarborough, and Hamilton, as needed, to fulfill the scope of the position.
  • This opportunity also permits a hybrid-remote work schedule contingent on operational needs and scope of work. The hybrid schedule requires a private work-from-home space with reliable high-speed internet. A company laptop, cell phone, and other equipment will be provided.

Responsibilities include:

Talent Acquisition & Recruitment

  • Leads full-cycle recruitment processes, including job postings, pre-screen assessments, reference checks, and onboarding.
  • Collaborates with hiring managers to assess workforce needs and develop strategic recruitment plans.
  • Builds and maintains a talent pipeline through proactive sourcing and networking.
  • Ensures a seamless and positive candidate experience that reflects the organization’s values and culture.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Onboarding & Employee Integration

  • Develops, maintains, and continuously enhances onboarding and training plans tailored to different roles and programs/departments.
  • Partners with hiring managers and cross-functional teams to ensure onboarding is aligned with departmental goals and requirements.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the onboarding journey, including pre-boarding communications and welcome materials.
  • Monitors onboarding effectiveness through feedback surveys, retention data, and performance indicators, using insights to refine strategies.
  • Champions a welcoming and inclusive onboarding experience that reflects the organization’s values and supports long-term retention.

Learning & Development

  • Conducts staff training needs assessments to identify needs, skill gaps, and development opportunities.
  • Sources, vets, and coordinates external training providers to deliver high-impact learning experiences.
  • Manages the end-to-end training process, including budgeting, scheduling, logistics, and communications.
  • Collects and analyzes training feedback to evaluate effectiveness and inform future learning strategies.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous learning, leadership development, and career progression through inclusive and accessible initiatives.

Performance Management

  • Develops and implements performance management frameworks and tools aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Provides coaching to managers on goal setting, feedback delivery, and performance review processes, including effective performance conversations.
  • Ensures that interim and annual performance reviews are completed on schedule and conducts audits to verify compliance with established timelines and processes.
  • Analyzes performance trends and supports proactive interventions to address challenges.

Employee Engagement

  • Designs and implements organization-wide engagement strategies that foster a culture of belonging, purpose, and motivation.
  • Spearheads, actively participates in, and oversees a new Culture & Connections Collective comprised of a cross-functional employee-led committee dedicated to curating inclusive, high-impact events that build camaraderie and celebrate workplace culture.
  • Leads the planning and execution of diverse engagement initiatives, including team-building events, themed office days, and milestone recognitions.
  • Ensures events are thoughtfully designed to reflect the interests and values of a diverse workforce, while promoting collaboration, morale, and a sense of community.
  • Creates related surveys, analyzes data, and presents findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Employee Retention

  • Develops and implements strategies that support recognition, career growth, and work-life balance.
  • Partners with managers to create personalized development plans for high-potential employees.
  • Analyzes turnover data and employee feedback to identify retention risks and recommend targeted solutions.
  • Manages and conducts exit interview processes and uses insights to drive organizational improvements.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

HR Communication & Feedback

  • Develops and facilitates regular feedback loops through surveys, group discussions, and one-on-one conversations.
  • Translates employee feedback into actionable insights and collaborates with leadership to implement improvements.
  • Supports internal communications that reinforce organizational values, goals, and initiatives.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Tracks and analyzes key HR metrics related to engagement, retention, performance, and development.
  • Prepares regular reports and dashboards to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of HR programs using data-driven insights and recommends enhancements.
  • Ensures data integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality in all reporting processes.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the needs of the HR department.

Qualifications/ Skills Required:

  • Well-rounded HR professional with a minimum of 5 years’ direct experience in talent management, employee relations, and engagement.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources is highly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. CHRP or CHRL designations are considered assets.
  • Prior experience in a similar capacity within an organization with multiple locations and programs is highly preferred.
  • Experience designing and implementing structured onboarding programs.
  • Proficiency in ADP is a strong asset.
  • Proven HR-related coaching capabilities with a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Solid understanding of HR principles and best practices, along with knowledge and hands-on experience in relevant employment legislation, including the OHSA, AODA, OHRC, and ESA.
  • Experience using learning management systems (LMS), AI tools, and emerging HR technologies to automate and track onboarding, training, and performance management processes.
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative feedback to continuously improve onboarding, engagement, and development programs.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing systems and practices to improve HR efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with experience developing HR-related communications and building rapport across diverse teams.
  • Skilled in project management, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience effectively managing HR budgets is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of change management principles and their application to employee transitions and organizational culture-building.
  • Experience supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives through onboarding, engagement, and learning strategies.
  • Well-developed organizational skills, effective time management, and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines and achieve objectives.
  • High ethical standards with a proven ability to maintain sensitive information, uphold confidentiality, and exhibit tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Outlook 365 applications, including Teams and SharePoint.
  • Tech-savviness to learn and work with new online systems and technologies.
  • Willingness and flexibility to occasionally work outside regular business hours to achieve objectives.
  • A team player with a positive attitude and a dedicated work ethic.
