Program and Role Description:
Through the Ontario Bridge Training Program (OBTP), The Career Foundation offers sector-specific bridging programs to support highly skilled, internationally trained immigrants in integrating into the Canadian workforce within the fields of HVAC, Network Cabling, and Information Technology. Participants are provided with training and certification to successfully integrate into the job market.
This position of Job Developer on our OBTP team will perform effective job development functions for our OBTP Foundations in HVAC and Foundations in Network Cabling. The core duties of the position include developing relationships with employers in the HVAC and Network Cabling fields to find appropriate job placement opportunities for program participants and ensuring that job retention is achieved. The Job Developer also provides job coaching to program participants, participates in hosting information sessions, and performs other duties as assigned to support the program’s needs.
Position Type:
Casual employment contract (available for up to 37.5 hours per week) to March 31, 2025, with potential to lead to a full-time opportunity.
Location and Requirements:
- This position requires frequent local travel within the GTA to perform the core functions of the role. The official base office for the position will be The Career Foundation’s Etobicoke location at Islington Ave. & Hwy 401.
- The successful candidate must possess a valid Ontario G driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle to perform essential duties that require frequent local travel.

Responsibilities include:
Job Development, Employer Relations, and Participant Job Coaching
- Contacts employers to facilitate the placement of internationally trained professionals into full-time employment within the HVAC and Network Cabling industries.
- Conducts marketing and outreach to employers, community agencies, and the community at large to promote The Career Foundation’s OBTP HVAC and Network Cabling programs, including attending networking events, conferences, and hiring fairs.
- Effectively presents the programs to community partners and potential participants in a clear manner, ensuring they understand the objectives and time requirements.
- Establishes relationships with employers in the HVAC and Network Cabling industries and continuously develops job placement opportunities for program participants.
- Conducts job search workshops and cold calls to employers as part of job coaching for program participants.
- Ensures that employers meet all eligibility requirements and conducts site visits prior to coordinating job placements to confirm that program participants are provided with a suitable and safe work environment.
- Supports program participants in targeting suitable employment opportunities based on their credentials and experience.
- Coaches and prepares program participants for interviews and during the initial stages of their work placements, while maintaining positive relationships with the placement employers.
- Monitors participants’ job placements, oversees the development of their training plans, and conducts follow-ups to ensure successful employment outcomes for program participants.
- Works collaboratively with other team members to ensure that participants’ needs, abilities, and employment goals are achieved.
- Prepares and submits job development activity reports to program management on a regular basis.
- Conducts regular check-ins and follow-up calls with all active participants and employers.
- Coordinates events, including hiring fairs, webinars, and information sessions to support employer needs and attract new participants.
- Utilizes digital systems and technologies provided by The Career Foundation to further support participants with achieving successful outcomes.
- Supports program management in preparing marketing-related communications, including success stories and entries for annual reports.
- Provides activity and progress reports as assigned by program management.
- Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications/ Skills Required:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in marketing, business, human/social services, or a related field relevant to the position’s duties is highly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in job development, recruitment, community outreach, business development, or other experience that is directly transferable to the duties of the position is required.
- Must possess a valid Ontario G driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle to conduct frequent local travel within the GTA.
- Experience supporting internationally trained professionals and newcomers in an employment services context is considered an asset.
- Candidates who possess the above qualifications as well as existing relationships with employers in the fields of HVAC and/or Network Cabling that could be relied upon to provide program participants with work placements will be prioritized.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills with a proven ability to develop rapport with people.
- Proven track record in a results-driven environment with experience meeting assigned targets.
- A professional and courteous approach to client service with a high level of respect for the diversity of the people served.
- Knowledge of current labour market trends and job search techniques is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Bilingualism is considered an asset.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to uphold the organization’s service standards, policies, and core values.
- Proven ability to maintain sensitive information, exhibit tact, diplomacy, and good judgment, with high standards of ethics and confidentiality.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and Office 365 applications, including Teams and SharePoint.
- Must possess the aptitude and willingness to learn and work with new online systems and technologies.
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside of regular business hours when needed to meet the needs of program participants.
- Positive attitude with a dedicated work ethic and client-centred approach.
