Program & Role Description: The Career Foundation’s Junior Construction Field Coordinator Recruitment and Training program (o/a “the program”) will recruit, train, and provide job placement assistance to underrepresented and marginalized individuals in Ontario’s Southwestern Region, the Greater Toronto Area, and Ottawa. Services to participants will be provided both virtually and in-person.
Working in cooperation with industry partners, the program will focus on serving those who are furthest from the labour market to provide them with the education and experience required to enter and build their careers in the construction industry. Participants will include women, persons with mental health challenges, youth at risk, Indigenous peoples, individuals previously involved with the justice system, low-wage earners, newcomers, and/or racialized groups. To support participants’ job retention, program staff will also coach employers on diversity and inclusion practices.
The Program Technical Trainer will be responsible for teaching a 6-week virtual training program for Junior Construction Field Coordinators, which will be delivered twice this year. There will be 15 participants per cohort. A total of 30 participants will complete the training program.
Position Type: Independent Contractor (6 weeks)
Virtual Teaching Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm
Cohort One: Monday, July 17, 2023 to Friday, August 25, 2023
Cohort Two: Monday, November 13, 2023 to Friday, December 22, 2023
Reporting to: Program Coordinator
Location & Requirements: This opportunity is currently structured as a fully remote position comprised of 2 online training cohorts. This remote schedule is based upon operational needs and contingent on the successful candidate possessing a private work-from-home space with reliable, high-speed internet.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Deliver a practical Junior Construction Field Coordinator virtual training program that equips participants with the ability to work productively, safely, and efficiently while learning daily tasks that commonly occur on work sites. The course should focus on developing essential skills and enhancing communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Lessons will focus on providing participants with entry-level construction coordination skills that will be demonstrated and practised through a series of hands-on, work-based scenarios and activities. Training will include industry-approved Construction Field Coordinator certification. The topics should include the following:
- Understanding contract documents and reviewing trade scopes of work.
- Basic computer software used in the construction industry.
- On-site communication with Superintendents/Project Managers regarding ongoing trade work and progress deliverables.
- Overview of types of meetings in the field.
- Overview of quality control and drawings.
- Deficiency walk-throughs.
- How to recognize unsafe conditions and who to report them to.
- The basics of surveying, elevation, and horizontal layout.
- A review of typical construction heavy equipment and tools.
- Cold weather temperature protection and monitoring.
- Civil Construction: Understanding terminologies and branches of Civil Engineering.
- Building Construction: Understanding terminologies and Commercial/Industrial Construction and the process of adding structure to properties.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction coordination or a related field.
- Industry-approved Construction Field Coordinator Training certification.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
