Program and Role Description:

Conveniently located in Etobicoke, North York, Toronto, York, and Scarborough, The Career Foundation’s five (5) full-suite Employment Centres provide job seekers with a full range of services, including exploring career options, improving their résumés, preparing for interviews, arranging employment placements, providing job retention support and much more. Our Employment Centres also offer a range of services to employers, including recruitment support, candidate screening, job matching, hiring fairs, workplace orientation, retention advice, and other services.   

As the Community Outreach Worker, you would be an essential team member responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining community partnerships within all communities served by our full-suite Employment Centres, as well as outreaching to recruit new, eligible participants into our programming. Your role would also support our job seeker clients in accessing employment services and wraparound support within the communities that we serve to help them achieve their employment goals. You will have individual targets to meet, contributing to the team’s overall goal of achieving successful outcomes for our clients.

Position Type:

Full-time (37.5 hours per week) one-year contract with excellent potential to lead to permanent

Base Location and Travel Requirements:

  • This opportunity is based at our Etobicoke office located at Islington Ave. & Hwy 401 and requires frequent local travel to our other Employment Centres (York, North York, Scarborough, and Toronto) as well as other locations, including community partner and employer sites, and other stakeholder locations to fulfill the core requirements of the position.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to work from all offices of The Career Foundation and possess a valid Ontario G driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle to perform essential duties that require frequent local travel.
  • This position will also operate under a hybrid schedule, allowing for one work-from-home day per week. The hybrid schedule is based on performance and operational needs and requires a private work-from-home space with reliable, high-speed internet. A company laptop, cell phone, and other equipment will be provided

Responsibilities include:

Community Outreach, Program Promotion, and Participant Recruitment

  • Conducts outreach to recruit new, eligible participants into The Career Foundation’s five full-suite Employment Centres, with a particular focus on racialized individuals, Indigenous people, Francophone populations, newcomers, individuals with disabilities, and youth with higher support needs.
  • Presents our services to potential participants, employers, and community partners, ensuring they understand the program objectives and time requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains new relationships with community agencies, setting up MOUs to ensure effective partnerships and referrals into services.
  • Works with program staff to understand the needs of clients and the community programs required to support their goals.
  • Attends community events, job fairs, and other networking opportunities to develop relationships.
  • Utilizes social media channels and works in collaboration with The Career Foundation’s Communications Specialist to develop effective marketing campaigns to recruit new, eligible participants and employers.
  • Coordinates guest speakers, group mentorship events, and other initiatives to support program participants in achieving successful outcomes.
  • Facilitates information sessions and pre-employment workshops within the communities served.
  • Seeks marketing opportunities to feature The Career Foundation within the communities served.
  • Hosts internal information sessions for fellow staff across The Career Foundation to facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Conducts itinerant services at community partners as needed.
  • Tracks referrals in and out to support client needs and recognize community partners for their collaboration and relationship.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation on all activities performed and KPIs achieved.
  • Supports program management in preparing marketing-related communications about the program, including success stories and entries for annual reports.
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

Intake, Selection, and Participant Coaching

  • Screens potential participants for eligibility and suitability factors, schedules intake appointments, and facilitates information sessions.
  • Guides program participants in exploring employment requirements, industry accreditation, and further education/training opportunities as needed.
  • Utilizes digital systems and technologies provided by The Career Foundation to further support participants with achieving successful outcomes.
  • Supports the team in providing workshops for program participants on relevant topics, including self-marketing skills, job search strategies, and employer research.
  • Supports the team in providing job search and employability skills coaching to participants as needed.
  • Researches and provides program participants with referral information for other services in the community when needed.
  • Collaborates with fellow team members on topics such as job development and employment retention strategies that help lead program participants to successful outcomes.
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Skills Required:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in human/social services, marketing, business, or a related field relevant to the position’s duties is highly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ direct experience in community outreach, job development, recruitment, marketing, or other experience that is directly transferable to the duties of the position is required.
  • Candidates who possess the above qualifications and experience working with clients facing barriers to employment will be prioritized.
  • Must be willing to perform frequent local travel within all communities served by The Career Foundation’s five full-suite Employment Centres, including Etobicoke, York, North York, Scarborough, and Toronto.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario G driver’s licence and reliable vehicle to conduct essential and frequent work-related travel.
  • Exceptional relationship development skills and the ability to develop rapport with people in all stakeholder groups, including community partners, program participants, and employers.
  • Proven track record in a results-driven environment and experience with meeting assigned targets.
  • A professional and courteous approach to client service with a high level of respect for the diversity of the people served.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to uphold the organization’s core values.
  • High ethics and confidentiality standards with proven experience maintaining sensitive information and exhibiting tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Bilingualism in French or a second language is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines and achieve targets and objectives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Outlook 365 applications, including MS Teams and SharePoint.
  • Must possess the aptitude and willingness to learn and work with new online systems and technologies.
  • Willingness and flexibility to occasionally work outside regular business hours when required to ensure the team meets all objectives.
  • Positive attitude with a dedicated work ethic and willingness to take initiative to lend assistance where needed to ensure that the team is successful.
