The construction sector is expected to experience significant growth between now and 2030. Seize the opportunity and embark on a rewarding career in the world of construction!

A Women’s Work program aims to address the pressing labour shortage in Ontario’s trades industry while empowering women to excel in the construction industry.

This program offers aspiring women a chance to acquire practical skills and gain hands-on experience, preparing them for a fulfilling career in the construction industry. The program creates a safe and supportive learning environment tailored specifically to female participants.

Program Details

This no-cost training program for female participants offers four cohorts.

Cohort 1 begins in April 2024 and ends in July 2024. The cohort includes 11 weeks of training, followed by an 8-week work placement.

  • During the program, participants will undergo 3 weeks of foundational training, 8 weeks of pre-apprenticeship, followed by an 8-week
  • Paid job placement with a leading industry employer or a general contractor. Additionally, participants will benefit from ongoing job
    retention support, ensuring their long-term success within the industry.
  • Participants will receive gender-focused training, mentorships, self-esteem workshops, and industry guidance aimed at equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the trades industry.
  • Work placements will be arranged in the participants’ local areas for convenience.

Location

For any in-person training, sessions will be held in the GTA region. Paid work placements will be with employers located across Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Depending on your location, you will be placed with an employer located in one of the regions closest to your residence.

Program Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 18 years or older and currently unemployed.
  • Have one of the following statuses:
    • Canadian citizen
    • Permanent Resident
    • Refugee
  • Not enrolled in full-time schooling
  • Facing barriers to employment
  • Demonstrate the ability to commit to working 40+ hours per week during the placement period.

*Note: Participants will require access to a computer with a reliable internet to complete some virtual training sessions.
